If you are looking for ways to help improve your chances of success while undergoing western fertility treatments you're not alone. Most studies focus on how to improve IVF (in vitro fertilization) cycles but little is mentioned on how to improve IUI cycles. Although there may be a lack of available information there are things which you can do to help boost your chances of a healthy pregnancy during an IUI cycle.
IUI stands for intrauterine Insemination. In this procedure, sperm will be inserted directly to the top of the uterus using a small medical device called a catheter. When couples are trying to conceive via intercourse sperm is released into the vagina and then will make the journey through the vagina, into the cervix before ending up in the uterus. Many sperm will not survive to this point. The remaining sperm will then travel through the fallopian tube to the ovary where if timed properly an egg will be waiting. During an IUI cycle, the sperm has been directly placed in the uterus bypassing a large distance it would have had to travel naturally. This allows more sperm to reach the fallopian tubes and fertilize a healthy egg.
IUI cycles can be performed during a woman's natural cycle or along with medication. Medications such as letrozole or Clomid are often combined with an IUI. These medications help to induce ovulation and possibly support the release of more than 1 egg. Combining both an IUI and medication, therefore, allow more sperm to reach the ovaries and the ovaries to release more than 1 egg. More sperm and more eggs will end up with a greater chance of pregnancy.

This is one of the most well known treatments of Chinese medicine and for good reason. Acupuncture is an effective treatment for many types of reproductive medicine complaints. From male fertility, endometriosis, PCOS and pregnancy support acupuncture can be used safely. It is also a good addition to support couples who are undergoing an IUI. The placement of needles in specific areas of the body during an IUI help to improve blood flow to both the uterus and ovaries, regulate hormones, decrease inflammation and decrease stress.
Laser to Support your IUI
Laser is a specific type of light therapy called Low-Level Light Therapy (LLLT) or Photobiomodulation. It is used for a variety of fertility issues and is gaining popularity quickly over the past few years. Laser treatments support the body and fertility by several different mechanisms. This treatment improves mitochondrial function which is extremely important for egg development. It also decreases inflammation, oxidative stress and improves blood flow.
